The Iranian team became world champions after clinching 5 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 1 bronze medal and scoring a total of 660 points for the fifth time in the history of the 2023 Junior World Weightlifting Championships.
Alireza Yousefi won the men’s super-heavyweights by a wide margin, and his team-mate Taha Nemati set a youth world record in second place to complete a strong finish by Iran at the World Junior Championships in Guadalajara, the IWF website said in a report.
The competition started in the Mexican city on November 15 and ended on Thiursday November 23.
A total of 229 lifters from 44 countries participated in the 2023 IWF World Junior Weightlifting Championships.
